Reflection 7 The Assure Model Lesson Plan (Part1)
What was the task to be completed?
- Do's and Dont's of creating objectives.
- Analyse the ASSURE Model of Lesson Planning inclusive of knowing what each letter of the Mnemonic represents.
- Differentiate between Learning Outcomes and Objectives.
- Thoroughly go through the first two stages of the ASSURE model
Outline step-by-step instructions in how to complete the task.
Do's and Don'ts of creating objectives
When creating objectives you must:
a. Create the objectives centered around Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
b. The curriculum is a guideline to write your own objectives for lesson plan. This is due to the fact that the teacher should know their students.
c. Writing lesson plans with the help of teachers. It is very helpful to utilize a model for example, a senior teacher, subject teacher, lesson plans from the internet which suits what you are aiming for. Learn to involve others so that you can have someone look over what you have created for errors or advice.
ASSURE Model of Lesson Planning
A-Analyze learners- This is when the analysis of the learning styles/ habits of the students within the class. This could be done by utilizing pre-tests and learning style surveys.
A-Analyze learners- This is when the analysis of the learning styles/ habits of the students within the class. This could be done by utilizing pre-tests and learning style surveys.
S-State objectives- These are clear guidelines of expected achievements for the learning session.
S- Select media and materials and methods- You should select media used and how to use content. Focus on the 6 types of media. Media is what is used to convey and receive the message. Materials are physical tools while methods are teaching and learning strategies. Examples of methods used include dictation(direct instruction- straight from the source. It involves the teacher guiding students by giving info(teaching) and learning(note taking which is how information is captured. Discussions are student centered approach methods of teaching where they are allowed to express multiple ideas by analyzing, critiquing and responding. An example of a type of discussion is Lecture discussion which entails teaching and allowing discussions to occur between students.
U-Utilize media and materials. Be sure to properly prepare the environment, distribute handouts/information in advance preferably (media) and prepare the learners for the course. Examples of media could be videos, audio and texts while examples of materials could be handouts, books and stationery.
R- Require learner Participation- This involves what students learn and how they do. For example, you should begin class on time with an introduction/set induction (gains intention for learners). You should endeavor to grab the students attention using a meaningful introduction (recap, activity, diagnostic). Integrating Technology is a method: through the use of videos, word documents. How they are working; whole class(discussion), group work, individual (note taking). Whichever methods you choose, they should be geared towards learners participation.
E- Evaluate and - Student evaluation and assessment is how you are able to know what your students are learning. This involves reflecting to see what was learned and what was not learned by your students. Methods (actions) include- questioning and observing. Instruments (physical tools) include mark schemes, checklist and rubrics. For example, presentation is a method and a rubric is an instrument which is used to assess what they will present.
Benefits of the Assure Model
Helps to utilize technology to help students with the 21st
century learner in mind. It harnesses skills for problem solving, and critical
thinking.
Helps them to make connections from past to today to help students…all instructional activities will be carefully thought out and geared towards learners needs. Help to be more aware of learning styles of students.

Difference between Learning Outcomes and Objectives
Learning outcomes- These are what students should be able to do at the
end of a learning period(lesson, week, unit, term). Types of Learning outcomes include specific, instructional, behavioral
objectives.
Objectives- These include everything needed to help learners and integrate
technology in the classroom. They are designed to be continuously used by teachers.
First two levels of the assure model
1. Analyze learners- The Vark learning style questionnaire/survey was used as an example to show what a persons learning style is.
2. State Objectives- When writing your objectives, there should be three domains which should be used to write them. They are:
a. K= Knowledge- Cognitive Domain
b. S= Skills- Psychomotor
c. A= Attitudes- Affective
However, the one that is most commonly used is the cognitive or knowledge domain. When using this domain, you focus on the Blooms Taxonomy. Though there are two versions, the revised version is the most correct one to utilize.
Understanding Bloom's (Revised) Taxonomy
Differentiate between the old and new version of
the taxonomy.
Old version- Consists of Evaluation, Synthesis, Analysis Application, Comprehension and Knowledge.
Revised Version- Evaluation and Synthesis are changed at the higher order to Creating then Evaluating. While on the lower order, Comprehension and Knowledge are changed to Understanding then Remembering.
The old version is written as nouns while the revised version is written as verbs.
The two levels on the higher order are switched because they believed that the order of thinking
needed to be changed.
Analysis of Revised version
Remembering- Key words include: analyse, define, descried, list and match. Actions include: bookmarking highlighting and using google search.
Understanding- This explains how something works- Key words include: explain,
summarize, distinguish and give examples. Actions include: commenting on social media posts and utilizing advanced
search.
Applying – This is using existing knowledge to solve problems. Key words include: apply, demonstrate, show and solve. Actions include: Using app learning and sharing content, editing online
content and playing educational simulations.
Analyzing-breaking into smaller parts to understand
something. Key words include: analyze, compare, relate, and select. Actions include: tagging content, creating
internal and external links.
Evaluate – Key words include: value of content , justify, explain and support. Actions include:creating online survey,
moderating online SM site.
Creating (Come up with something new by using all of
knowledge to solve problem using more than prior knowledge to address
situations.). Key words include:create devise plan compile, directing and publishing.
What were the challenges faced in this class? If any, how were they overcome?
I believe that my greatest challenge faced was differentiating which part of the Taxonomy Pyramid was higher order and which was lower order. I then used an example shown along with some help from a classmate to understand.

Was there anything new learnt as a result of this teaching and learning experience? If yes, what was it and explain how you benefited from it.
I expounded my knowledge of Bloom's Taxonomy and I am now clear on how I can apply it to creating my objectives for my students.
Explain how you will use/implement what was covered in the lesson in your classroom.
I believe I can apply what I learned by creating more student focused objectives which will be more to the benefit of the students themselves.
