What was the task to be completed?
  • Identify the ABCD's of Objectives
  • Steps in creating learning objectives
  • Identify two theories about learning objectives.
  • Create examples of student centered learning objectives
Outline step-by-step instructions in how to complete the task.

1. ABCD's of creating Objectives

Audience- This is the learners (students).
Behavior-  This is what you want the students to learn.
Condition- Under what circumstances or context should learning occur.
Degree-      To what extent will the evaluation aspect occur.

2. Steps in creating learning objectives

    a. Stem Sentence- This is the starting sentence for the objective. For example After completing this module, students will be able to.

    b. Determine Learning Outcome- This is what you want students to do and how they will show understanding of concept mastery.

   c. Consult Blooms Wheel-  This is using the Blooms Wheel to find the action that you want students to carry out.
   d. Write verb and learning outcome into a statement- This is classifying learning objectives within the 6 cognitive domains of Blooms Taxonomy.

3. Two theories concerning learning objectives.

The first theory is that of Gronlound who focuses strictly on Behavioral objectives; what the students will be able to do.

The second theory is that of Mager who focuses on including all aspects of objectives.

4. Examples of student centered learning objectives

Specific Learning Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

a. Construct a KWL chart in a word document using the insert table from the tool bar with 100% accuracy.

b. Design a presentation on learning using Microsoft Powerpoint with no more than 10 slides.

Instructional Learning Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

Express with confidence what is educational technology and instructional media after small group discussions.

What were the challenges faced in this class? If any, how were they overcome?

Our main task in this class was to create learning objectives through the inclusion of the ABCD's and the steps outlined by blooms taxonomy. I personally do not think that I encountered any difficulties because the steps were clearly outlined and the examples given helped a lot.

Was there anything new learnt as a result of this learning experience? If yes, what was it and how did you benefit from it?

I learned that when creating learning objectives, firstly, it is imperative to make them student focused. Secondly, the ABCD's should be utilized along with the Blooms Wheel and the steps to create them. Lastly, I more important learned how to compile everything into one statement and how to further identify the aspects in other statements of objectives I may encounter.

Explain how you will use/implement what was covered in the lesson in your classroom.

I believe that I could use this in my classroom by creating more effective, student centered objectives for my learners.
